Vernel Key, of 2 C.R. 55, Newton, Alabama, formerly of Miami, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at her home surrounded by family at the age of 74. She was born December 28,1947 in Muscogee, Oklahoma to Euel and Patsy Rice. She was a certified member of the Cherokee Nation Tribe of Oklahoma. She lived in Miami, Florida for 35 years before moving to Alabama, where she lived for 30 years.
Vernel is survived by two sons, Franklin Key, Jr. of Florida and Patrick Key of Alabama; three daughters, Lynda Anderson of Alabama, Suzette Key of Alabama, and Kelly Key of Alabama; one sister, Frances Mendenhall of Florida; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022 beginning at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Magnolia Funeral Home, 507 West Main Street, Hartford, Alabama 36344. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
